I’m so excited!

After months of work, almost 400 pages and 83,000 words, I just typed the words "The End" on my new novel in the “Flames of Destiny Collection”.

“Echoes of the Past” is the second book to be published in this collection of paranormal romance novels cloaked in mystery and suspense on enchanting Greek islands.

Of course, the book must go through editing, proofreading, and formatting, and a new cover must be created. But all these steps are part of the book’s journey, and they’re always so much fun!

I’m relying on my fantastic team to help me through those steps, and I can’t wait for the release of my novel sometime soon.

I would appreciate your opinion…

I have been an avid reader, all my life. Ever since I can remember myself, I would read every romance, mystery, detective, crime, or adventure story I could get my hands on. I enjoy following the characters through the twists and turns of the plot, sharing their thoughts, and experiencing their feelings.

Some people enjoy drama, others comedy, others suspense… After all, we all have different taste. That’s what makes the world go round. Some people like it when they are questions left unanswered and issues to contemplate over, at the end of the novel. That’s an interesting concept. However, I prefer it when all questions are answered, all matters are settled, and only a feeling of happiness is left. I love books where everything ties up nicely in the end, honesty and justice prevail, and make me smile. It doesn’t matter if there is sadness, heartache, and suspense along the way, as long as when the time comes, there is a happy ending. I feel happy when the main characters solve their issues, find justice, and achieve their goals.

I would appreciate your opinion about happy endings—do you prefer a happy ending in a novel or not? Does it stay longer with you when a question is left unanswered? Does an issue left outstanding provoke more thinking?

Romantic Mystery & Suspense Novels

Romance is alluring and makes us feel wonderful, and so is mystery. That’s why I love romantic mystery and suspense novels. There’s nothing like a good romance story, with the right mix of mystery, adventure and suspense, to keep your interest on “high alert”. However, the setting and time of the story is just as important to me. The “where” and “when” play a major role in the development of the story, as well as how the reader perceives it.

Reading a good romance and suspense story is fascinating. Furthermore, if it takes place in an exotic backdrop, it’s hard to resist. This way, besides the development of the romance and the solving of the mystery, the reader is actually “given the bonus” of “visiting” an enchanting destination and experiencing an “imaginary journey”.

My romantic mystery and suspense novel “Spellbound in His Arms” — the first novel in “The Greek Isles Series” — takes place on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu — a place of unparalleled beauty, culture and history…

Writing emotional scenes

When I write a scene, I pay special attention to the emotions involved, and I try to make sure the reader would “feel” the emotions and not just read about them.

I draw from my own experience, in order to describe my body reactions and thoughts going through my mind at every emotional state: happiness, worry, anxiousness, fear, etc.

Throughout the years, I loved the books which “actually” made me laugh, cry, get upset, etc.—I loved the books which made me “feel”. I didn’t want to just read “flat” descriptions with no emotional “depth”.

So, as a writer, I don’t allow myself provide anything less to my readers, than what I expect from a good book. Most of the times, when I read an emotional scene, I’ve written, I found myself crying or laughing, depending on the mood described in the scene. If I don’t do that, then I rewrite the scene.

Beautiful, smart, fiery temper heroines and larger than life heroes - interesting, well worked-out romance plots with a touch of mystery & suspense – all taking place in a majestic setting: is what I believe to be the most important ingredients for an interesting novel.

Please, feel free to share what makes a novel interesting for you. Which are those characteristics that would satisfy you as a reader?

We all do things differently – we all have are own style

The same holds for writing or anything else. Some writers create first an outline and write the book based on that. I start my novels by sitting down and writing the first sentence that comes to mind and I go on from there. The book unfolds in my mind, as I go on and I don’t know what’s going to happen a few pages later. It just comes to me. The dialogues, the twists and turns, the unfolding of the hero’s and heroine’s characters, it just comes as I go. I enjoy it this way. It comes natural and I feel free to create. I don’t have to stick to a certain outline or anything.

When my aunt read one of the novels I was writing, she was all excited and asked me “Wow! What happens next?” And I honestly told her “I don’t know. I’ll find out, when I write about it.”

Before I became a writer…

Before I became a writer, even before the thought ever crossed my mind, I was a reader – an avid reader - and still am.

It was my favorite pass time to sit down somewhere cozy with a novel and get lost in the wonderful world of imagination. I loved stories with a nice blend of romance and suspense, taking place in beautiful settings, with strong characters and interesting plots with all loose ends nicely tied up in the end. I enjoyed reading about beautiful, smart, courageous heroines that were swept off their feet by larger than life heroes.

When I write my novels, unconsciously I keep in mind those things that make me love a novel and keep on turning pages. I write stories that I would love to read, about heroes and heroines that would fascinate me, if they were another writer’s work.

Needless to say, that I love writing as much as I love reading, maybe even more…

Practice makes you better

I won’t use the word “perfect”, since nothing and no-one is ever perfect. But the more you read and the more you write, you become better and better.  However, there is always more to learn. There are always new paths to follow, new ways and things to explore.

Reading and writing novels for most of the writers is a passion. It’s not just a job, a hobby or a way to pass the time. It’s a “need”.

And if you aren’t passionate about what you’re doing, you can be average, but you can never be real good at it. I believe that loving what you do, gives you by far a competitive advantage. Why? Because it drives you to acquire more knowledge about your field, think about more innovating ways of doing things, spend more hours researching and not getting tired or fed up, and so on and so forth… And this is what makes you special – this is what makes you stand out from the crowd.
